Duas

moon sighting

O Allah, bring it over us with blessing and faith, and security and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.

start of fasting

I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan

breaking fast

Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is certain if Allaah wills.

O Allah! For You I have fasted and upon your provision, I have broken my fast.

Laylatul qadr

O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, [Generous,] You love pardon, so pardon me

dua for forgiveness

O Allah we have reached morning, calling You to witness, and calling the carriers of Your Throne to witness, and Your angels, and all of Your creation, that You are Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but You, Alone, without partner, and that Muhammad (S.A.W.) is Your slave and Your Messenger.

dua before sleeping

O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the day Your servants are resurrected.

dua after waking up

All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection.

dua after fajr

O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit , a good provision , and deeds that will be accepted.

1st Ashra Dua

Oh Everliving, The Everlasting, I seek Your help through Your mercy.

I seek forgiveness from Allah for all my sins and turn to Him.

O Allah, save me from the fire (Jahannam).

Ramadan Meals

Lebanese Lentil Soup

Untitled

Ingredients

METHOD

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot. Add the onions, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened.
  2. Add the carrots, lentils, rice, and cumin. Season again with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the cumin is fragrant.
  3. Add water and bring the soup to a boil.
  4. Reduce the heat and cook, until the rice and lentils are fluffy and fully cooked.
  5. The soup is ready to serve as is. But I like to use an immersion blender to give it a smooth texture.
  6. Stir in some lemon juice to finish it up with a fresh zing!

Musakhan (Palestinian)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, brown the chicken on both sides in olive oil over medium-high – about 8 minutes per side. Use a splatter guard or, if you don’t have one, simply use less olive oil (add the rest with the other ingredients).
  2. Remove chicken and set aside on a platter. Add the sliced onions and cook until reduced by half.
  3. Return the chicken to the pot along with the sumac and seasoning. Loosely cover and continue cooking until the chicken is falling off the bone and the onions are very soft and browning – about 45 minutes. Stir occasionally and reduce heat as necessary to avoid burning the onions.
  4. To serve, brush the flatbread with olive oil, top with onion mixture and chicken.
  5. TIP: For lighter portions, cut the whole leg at the joint and divide the leg and thigh pieces over 6 breads instead of 3. Garnish with more sumac. Broil for a moment to heat through. Serve with plain yogurt and olives.
